The State Duma wants to recognize foreign organizations with state participation as undesirable

The head of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, Vasily Piskarev, said that deputies are working on amendments to recognize foreign organizations with state participation as undesirable. Currently, only foreign non-governmental organizations can be added to the undesirable list.

Vasily Piskarev said that the commission has information about the participation of such organizations in activities that threaten the security of Russia. The parliamentarian claims that often such organizations are also responsible for developing sanctions, blocking investment projects, training “agents of influence,” interfering in elections and inciting ethnic hatred.

“In this regard, it is proposed to include foreign and international organizations, the founders or participants of which are government bodies of foreign states, in the list of organizations whose activities may be considered undesirable on the territory of Russia,” he wrote in his Telegram Vasily Piskarev. However, the amendments will not apply to international intergovernmental organizations of which Russia is a member.

Amendments will be made to four federal laws, as well as to Art. 20.33 Code of Administrative Offenses (participation in the work of a foreign or international NGO recognized as undesirable) and Art. 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (carrying out activities of a foreign or international NGO recognized as undesirable). For interaction with undesirable organizations and their financing, criminal liability is provided for up to five years in prison.
