Zhurova urged to send the convicted Spartak player Promes to prison
First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova commented on the verdict against Spartak forward Quincy Promes in the case of attacking his cousin, Sport-Express reports.
She called for a foreign player to be sent to prison: “This is a criminal prosecution. Interpol will look into whether they should expel him.” “We do not have an extradition agreement, but there is international cooperation,” the parliamentarian noted.
The Amsterdam court sentenced the Spartak striker in absentia to 1.5 years in prison. Promes was found guilty of involvement in the armed attack and stabbing of his cousin. Now the player is in Moscow.
Promes returned to the red and white camp in February 2021. From 2014 to 2018, he played for Spartak, becoming the champion of the Russian Federation and the owner of the Russian Super Cup during this period.
