The State Duma rejected six amnesty initiatives

State Duma deputies rejected six amnesty initiatives at a plenary session today, April 4. The decision was made due to the loss of relevance of the documents, reports “RIA News”. Earlier, the State Duma’s constitutional committee recommended rejecting the initiative.

Among them:

• Amnesty in connection with the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the State Duma. It was proposed to release from punishment those convicted for a term of up to five years inclusive and those who committed crimes through negligence; women with minor children, pregnant women and women over 55; men over 60 who have been sentenced to up to five years and who have not previously served sentences in correctional facilities; and citizens convicted for up to five years inclusive under more than 20 articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The initiative was introduced by deputies from the LDPR in 2016.
• Amnesty in connection with the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution of 1917. It was supposed to include minors who committed crimes under the age of 18, and the above categories of women and men.
• Amnesty in connection with the third anniversary of the annexation of Crimea to Russia and another initiative in connection with the celebration of the Day of National Unity. All of the above categories of citizens should have fallen under it.
• Amnesty in connection with the 30th anniversary of the end of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. Veterans of military operations, as well as the above categories of citizens, could fall under the amnesty.
• Amnesty in connection with the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. Under it were supposed to fall persons who compensated for their crimes.
