The State Duma did not support the draft law on depriving Russians of citizenship by birth

The State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation did not support the draft law, according to which it is proposed to deprive Russians of citizenship by birth. According to the committee, the initiative contains “incorrect language” and is therefore recommended to be rejected.
“The bill under consideration cannot be supported, since it is clearly incorrect to possibly extend to persons who have Russian citizenship by birth or by recognition under other conditions (previously applied in the legislation of the Russian Federation) such a general basis as reporting knowingly false information regarding the obligation to comply Constitution,” says the official review of the Duma committee (quoted from RBC).
Senators group contributed draft law to the State Duma on July 21. Senators Sergei Tsekov (from Crimea), Olga Bas (from the Lugansk People’s Republic), Ekaterina Altabaeva and Sergei Kolbin (both from Sevastopol) proposed to provide for the possibility of terminating Russian citizenship by birth or recognition for committing crimes (preparation for a crime or attempted crime) and actions that pose a threat to national security. As such crimes called desertion, discrediting the armed forces and calls for extremism.
The head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, Andrei Klishas, criticized the initiative. He recalled that committing actions leading to the termination of citizenship is considered a violation of the oath taken by naturalized Russians. Mr. Klishas advised his colleagues to “read the Constitution.”
July 24 Olga Bas, Ekaterina Altabaeva and Sergey Kolbin recalled their signatures on the legislative initiative. At the same time, Mr. Tsekov stated that he definitely does not intend to withdraw his signature, since the bill “has a future.”
