The State Duma Committee recommended the adoption in the second reading of the law on the ban on gender reassignment

The State Duma Committee on Health Protection recommended the adoption of a bill banning gender reassignment in the second reading. The Duma will consider the law on July 13. This is reported by TASS with reference to a source in the apparatus of the chamber.

The Committee also approved a number of amendments to the draft:

• the marriage is annulled in the event of a change of sex of one of the spouses;
• a person who has changed sex will be forbidden to adopt children;
• it is forbidden to perform operations and take drugs aimed at changing sex.

It is noted that persons who have changed their sex before the day the law on the ban on gender reassignment comes into force, its norms will not apply.

Earlier, Tamara Frolova, a member of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, told RIA Novosti that the project was under active development. Chairman of the Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, in turn, declaredthat a decision to ban gender reassignment would be made during July.

After the adoption of the law, in addition to sex reassignment operations, medical workers will be prohibited, among other things, from “forming a person’s primary and (or) secondary sexual characteristics of the other sex”, with the exception of cases of congenital physiological anomalies in children. The list of anomalies will be approved by the government.

At the plenary session on June 14, the State Duma accepted in the first reading, the bill on the ban on gender reassignment, which was introduced at the end of May by the deputies of all five Duma factions, headed by speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. The parliamentarian explained that the authors of the document thus want save country from the “devilish politics” of the United States, where “these new pseudo-values ​​are being promoted”, the number of transgender people among teenagers is “already three times more” than among adults, and the number of children receiving hormone therapy “has more than doubled in five years “.
