The State Duma Committee approved for the second reading amendments to the law on presidential elections

The State Duma Committee on State Building recommended adopting in the second reading a bill clarifying the provisions of the law on presidential elections in Russia. Broadcast of the committee meeting was carried out on the State Duma website.
“Then we will ask the State Duma to put these two bills together,” said Pavel Krasheninnikov, chairman of the state construction committee and co-author of the bill.
A bill amending the law on presidential elections was submitted to the State Duma on October 5 by a group of deputies and senators led by Krasheninnikov and Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation Andrei Klishas. The bill was approved in the first reading on October 17.
In particular, the amendments establish the possibility of co-financing the preparation and conduct of presidential elections from regional and local budgets. In addition, the bill clarifies the rules for photo and video filming at polling stations: it can only be carried out by those persons who have the legislative right to do so, while violation of the secrecy of voting and control over the choice of voters is unacceptable.
In addition, according to the amendments, only those employees of accredited media who work in the editorial office under an employment contract can be present at meetings of election commissions during the counting of votes and determining the results. The bill also increases the limits on spending on campaign materials.
As Vedomosti previously wrote, the State Duma plans to promptly consider changes to the law on presidential elections. As one of the authors of the amendments, a member of the State Construction Committee Dmitry Vyatkin, said, the law will be adopted promptly and will come into force before the presidential elections are announced.
Presidential elections must take place on March 17, 2024. The decision to call presidential elections is made no earlier than 100 and no later than 90 days before voting day. The Federation Council must announce the appointment of elections from December 8 to 18.
