The State Duma adopted a law completely banning advertising on all information resources of foreign agents, as well as advertising of such resources. The document was adopted in the third reading.

Bill was introduced a group of 395 deputies led by Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on February 15. The advertiser and the advertising distributor will be held liable for violations. Mr. Volodin previously said that the ban applies to any platforms – websites, blogs and social networks.

Amendments are being made to the laws “On Advertising” and “On Control over the Activities of Persons Under Foreign Influence.” As stated in the document, the distribution of advertising on the information resources of foreign agents is not allowed, as is the advertising of such information resources.

According to Kommersant, several factions of the State Duma are discussing further restrictions on foreign agents. For example, United Russia proposes to excommunicate foreign agents from social networks and the Internet, and A Just Russia – For Truth proposes banning the quoting and reposting of their materials. “New People,” on the contrary, are developing measures to liberalize legislation on foreign agents.
