The State Duma approved in the first reading the confiscation of property for fakes about the army

The State Duma approved in the first reading a bill on the confiscation of property, as well as the deprivation of honorary titles for crimes against security. The document was supported by 395 deputies, three voted against.

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that existing measures to “fight scoundrels” are not enough. In his opinion, confiscation of property will help “stop those who commit crimes against the security of our country, who consider it possible to insult our citizens, soldiers, officers, and support the Nazis.”

“They live comfortably, renting out real estate, continuing to receive fees at the expense of Russian citizens. These funds are used to support the Nazi regime. They allow themselves to publicly pour dirt on our country. Being abroad, they feel their impunity, believing that justice cannot reach them,” he commented on the voting results in Telegram.

The head of the New People faction in the State Duma, Alexey Nechaev, told Kommersant that his party does not support this initiative. According to him, the party considers the bill inappropriate and the norms contained in it redundant. “We will not support this bill, this is our internal faction decision. Each of the deputies of our faction will decide for himself whether he will vote against, abstain, or not vote at all,” Mr. Nechaev explained to Kommersant.

Bill contributed to the State Duma on January 22, its authors were 395 deputies. Confiscation of property will be provided for the dissemination of knowingly false information about the armed forces (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) and public calls for activities directed against the security of the state (Article 280.4), and is also provided for calls for the imposition of sanctions (Article 284.2 of the Criminal Code), rehabilitation of Nazism (Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code), calls for extremist activity (Article 280 of the Criminal Code) and violation of other articles. In addition, those convicted under these articles may be deprived of honorary titles and state awards by court decision. The initiative was supported by the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Justice, Rosfinmonitoring and the government commission on legislative activities.
