The State Duma adopted in the first reading bill on the creation of a publicly accessible single digital resource that will collect data from Russian language dictionaries over the past three centuries. The Ministry of Education and Science will coordinate the work on creating the National Dictionary Fund.

The government introduced amendments to the law “On the State Language of the Russian Federation” to the State Duma in January. According to the explanatory note, the digital resource will allow solving scientific, educational and practical problems. The National Dictionary Fund is planned to be developed in stages from 2025 to 2027. Its creation will require about 182 million rubles.

As Kommersant was informed at the Russian Language Institute, the fund will include at least 33 dictionaries: explanatory, spelling, spelling, etymological, as well as historical, starting from the Old Russian period. The search system will provide answers about the rules of spelling and pronunciation of words, as well as the history of their changes.

In February 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved amendments to the law “On the State Language of the Russian Federation,” according to which, in particular, federal authorities should promote “the creation of information resources containing information about the norms of the modern Russian literary language.”
