The State Duma adopted in the first reading bill on providing labor guarantees to the wives of deceased combat veterans. The document prohibits their dismissal at the initiative of the employer within one year from the date of death of the spouse. The ban will not apply to widows of combat veterans who remarried or repeatedly committed gross violations of labor discipline.
Amendments are proposed to be made to Part 4 of Art. 261 Labor Code. The explanatory note states that the adoption of the bill will allow “in difficult times” to additionally support loved ones of military personnel participating in a military operation and give them time “to normalize family life in a tragic moment.”
Currently, the ban on dismissal applies to women who have a child under the age of three, raising a disabled child under the age of 18 or a child under the age of 14, as well as single mothers.
At the end of January in the State Duma was introduced bill and protection of the interests of common-law wives of dead and missing participants in the military operation in Ukraine. The document establishes that after the death of a military relationship, it will be possible to recognize a marriage relationship through the court in a special proceeding if the man and woman have lived together for at least three years (or at least one year if there is a common child). Thus, the woman will have the right to claim an inheritance and receive the benefits provided by law from the state.
