Russians who have not served over 30 years old and are in the reserve will be involved in military training after the adoption of a law on changing the age for conscription into the army, said Viktor Sobolev, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee.
“Those who are over 30 years old will be recruited to receive a military specialty and not be cannon fodder. To do this, a lot needs to be done, including we must have a trained mobilization reserve, ”Sobolev explained (quote according to URA.RU). It is also necessary to carry out training camps for storekeepers and reservists, the deputy believes.
Gradually increase the draft age from 18 to 21 years, and the limit – from 27 to 30 years offered Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during an expanded meeting of the collegium of the Russian Ministry of Defense on December 21, 2022. He also called for an increase in the number of military personnel to 1.5 million people. President Vladimir Putin then supported these changes.
Press Secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov also said that, however, the details and execution of this initiative are the prerogative of the Ministry of Defense.
