The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted an amendment, according to which it will be possible to mobilize citizens of the country who have an outstanding conviction for a number of serious crimes. It is noted that until now, Russians who have an unexpunged or outstanding conviction for committing a serious crime were not subject to mobilization.
After amendments to the legislation, only those convicted of pedophilia, terrorist attacks, hostage-taking, organizing an illegal armed group, hijacking and illegal circulation of nuclear materials will not be subject to conscription in Russia.
In addition, citizens are exempted from mobilization if they have been convicted of treason, espionage, violent seizure of power, rebellion, and a number of other articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
