US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Julie Stafft said that Russian citizens can apply for a visa at US missions around the world. According to her, there are no restrictions on issuing permits to enter the United States for Russians.
The diplomat added that the US embassy in Moscow is currently not accepting applications for immigrant or non-immigrant visas due to the restrictions imposed by the Russian authorities on the work of the diplomatic mission. However, citizens of the Russian Federation can make an appointment to apply for a “visa of any category anywhere in the world.” According to her, the failure of the US authorities to return visa fees in case of disruption of interviews at US consular offices abroad is not related to the policy towards Russians. These are just the norms adopted in Washington regarding all foreigners.
Earlier, a number of European politicians called on the EU countries to ban the issuance of visas to all Russians. In particular, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba called on the EU and G7 countries to stop issuing visas to Russian citizens. According to the latest data, the EU is discussing the seventh package of sanctions against Russia. As noted in the German government, they are thinking about whether to include the termination of the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens of the Russian Federation.
In turn, the head of Rostourism, Zarina Doguzova, noted that Europe would not take such a step, both for reasons related to human rights and due to the fact that tourists from Russia spend billions of dollars on holidays in European countries.
