The statement of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko about the desire of Wagner PMC to “go on an excursion” to Poland is irresponsible. This was stated by the head of the press service of the US State Department Matthew Miller.
“I will say that this is another in a series of irresponsible comments by Lukashenka,” leads his words TASS.
At the same time, Miller stressed that Poland is a member of NATO, the United States will protect every inch of the territory of the military alliance, and the alliance with Poland remains strong.
July 23 Lukashenka at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin toldthat the Wagnerites “began to strain” him, as they declared their desire to “go on an excursion” to the West – to Poland. However, the president of the republic assured that he was keeping the Wagner participants “in the center, as agreed”, Minsk “would not like to relocate them there, because their mood is bad.”
On July 20, the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced joint exercises with Wagner at the Brestsky training ground – 13 km from the Brest checkpoint on the border with Poland. After that, Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak announced the transfer of military formations to the east of the country. Later, he clarified that a sapper battalion would be created on the border with Belarus and the Kaliningrad region. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, commenting on these events, saidthat Poland’s aggressiveness is a cause for concern.
