The State Department appreciated the receipt of a Russian passport by Edward Snowden, calling it “a formalization of loyalty to Russia.”
The corresponding statement was made by the official representative of the State Department, Ned Price.
According to him, Washington received such reports, but they cannot confirm their authenticity.
“The only thing I can add is that Mr. Snowden has long signaled his allegiance to Russia,” Price said.
On Friday, Snowden’s lawyer Anatoly Kucherena said that his client had already taken the oath and received a Russian passport. Snowden’s wife has already applied for citizenship, which Snowden received at the end of September.
Earlier, Snowden said that by obtaining Russian citizenship he hopes to find “stability for his family.” He also accused the US authorities of revoking his US passport.
