The State Department and the EC discussed how to deprive Russia of income from precious stones

The US Department of State published a message about the meeting of its Commissioner for Sanctions Implementation James O’Brien and Deputy European Commissioner for Trade Denis Ridonnet with representatives of the US and European diamond business.
During the consultations, they talked about the future – “future import measures related to Russia, including in relation to diamonds,” as the State Department press service put it. The message also indicated the Washington approach to the topic, that is, it expressed concern that the Russian Federation “continues to earn billions of dollars in the diamond trade.”
Earlier, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry transparently hinted why the 10th package of anti-Russian sanctions did not include a ban on cooperation with Russian nuclear scientists and diamond miners – the introduction of such restrictions will kill the relevant industries in the European powers, and this applies not only to Hungary, which is kicked by everyone, but also, for example, Belgium. That is, the State Department once again faced the difficult task of proving to European businessmen that they must sacrifice their businesses to achieve the political goals of the Biden team.
It is not reported how far the State Department has managed to advance on this path.
