The State Council of Tatarstan proposed to rename the president of the republic to raisa

The Presidium of the Committee of the State Council of Tatarstan introduced a bill changing the position of the head of the republic. The document proposes to call the head of the region “the head – the rais of the Republic of Tatarstan” (in short, “the rais of the Republic of Tatarstan”). This is how the word “president” sounds in Arabic and a number of other oriental languages.

Changes are proposed to be made to the second chapter and Article 89 of the constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan.

“At the same time, giving a new name to the position of the highest official, we understand that the current president of our republic, Rustam Nurgalievich Minnikhanov, was elected as president, our citizens voted for him as a presidential candidate,” said Mr. Khabibullin. The document will be approved by the end of the week.

The new name is proposed to be used after the elections. Thus, the title of president is proposed to be retained until 2025.

In December 2021, President Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which Russian subjects cannot have presidents. It entered into force on June 1. The regions had six months to unify the titles of executive positions.
