Employees of the Barguzinsky Reserve recorded a massive drift of the Baikal seal on melting ice floes. According to the press service of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Reserved Podlemorye”, animals thus migrate from the north of the lake to the south towards the archipelago of Ushkany Islands.

“Thousands of animals, a significant part of the northern population embarked on an epic journey through Baikal. There is no crowding on the ice, the Baikal seal is delighted with these ice. It is possible to lie serenely on them under the rays of the sun, providing an opportunity to successfully complete the molting process. In addition, it is convenient to feed, the ice floats far from the coast and over great depths, where there are many golomyankas, gobies and other fish, ”noted in the message reserve.
