The plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will be moderated by political scientist Dmitry Simes. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov. He noted that “solid material” had been prepared for Vladimir Putin’s speech at the SPIEF.
“President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Algeria Abdelmajid Tebboun will be at the plenary, and Dmitry Simes, honorary president of The National Interest from Washington, will moderate the session,” Peskov told reporters.
According to Dmitry Peskov, a “rich” speech by Vladimir Putin is expected, as well as a dialogue between the head of state and the President of Algeria. “In this case, very solid material has indeed been prepared for Putin’s speech, we have already said: a fairly detailed assessment of the state of affairs in the economy, in world economic processes will be given and prospects for the near and medium term will be outlined,” he added.
Dmitry Simes is an American political scientist of Soviet origin. He was born in Moscow in 1947. He is the publisher of the American magazine The National Interest. Mr. Simes also hosted the political talk show The Great Game on Channel One.
SPIEF takes place in St. Petersburg from 14 to 17 June. The President of Algeria arrived in Russia on June 14 to participate in the event. On June 15, Abdelmajid Tebbun and Vladimir Putin held talks. During the meeting, Mr. Putin notedthat relations with Algeria are of particular importance for Russia and are of a strategic nature. Mr. Tebbun, in turn, said that Russia’s support, including providing the republic with weapons, allows it to maintain its independence.
