The transition of the special unit “Thunder” from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the Russian Guard has been completed in full. About it TASS reported the press service of the Russian Guard.

The press release clarifies that the Thunder fighters joined the Russian Guard from the drug control units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the territorial bodies of the department.

About the beginning of the transition of “Grom” to the Russian Guard reported December 15, 2023. About the planned transfer of “Grom” from one department to another, July 17 stated State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein.

The deputy then noted that when integrated into the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of “Grom” did not exceed 2.7 thousand people, and now it is 7 thousand, which exceeds the total number of SOBR fighters (approximately 5 thousand).

The special unit “Grom” was created in 2003 to carry out law enforcement operations of the State Drug Control Service (later FSKN). Since December 6, 2016, “Grom” has been operating as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, its area of ​​responsibility has been expanded across the entire spectrum of police functionality.
