The Slovak Hockey Federation denied holding friendly matches with Russia

The Slovak Hockey Federation (SZH) denied information about the plans of the Slovak national team to play a friendly match with the Russian national team. On website SZH says reports of joint games have “shocked” the federation and are “fictitious.”
“We have not held any negotiations with the Russian Hockey Federation and do not plan to hold preliminary games with the Russian national hockey team. We strongly reject such speculation, which unnecessarily further divides a polarized society,” SZH said in a statement. It also notes that representatives of the Slovak Federation do not know the original source of such data.
On January 10, TASS, citing the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF), reported that there would be no friendly match between the Slovak and Russian teams, since the schedule of the Slovak team had already been formed. At the same time, a representative of the FHR in a conversation with TASS reported that the Russian Federation is “in dialogue” with SZH about holding joint games.
On the same day “MatchTV” citing a source reported that the Slovakian national team intends to play against the Russian national team before the May World Cup. According to the TV channel, Slovakia’s plans were to host one or more matches. Then the TV channel reported that the team was “waiting for approval of its initiative” from the country’s president, Zuzana Caputova.
The Ice Hockey World Championship will be held in the Czech Republic from May 10 to 26, 2024. Slovakia will take part in the 2024 World Cup in the same group with the teams of the USA, Germany, Latvia, Sweden, France, Kazakhstan, and Poland. The Russian team was suspended from participation in the championship.
