The sled dog race “Nadezhda-2023” starts at the end of March

Starting next week, the district department of culture, sports and tourism plans to begin accepting applications for participation in the Hope dog sled race. The route with a length of more than 600 km will pass through the settlements of the Chukotka and Providensky districts. The start of the race is scheduled for March 25, Chukotka news agency reports.

This year the main dog sled race in Chukotka will consist of nine stages. Like a year earlier, “Nadezhda” starts in the village of Inchoun, Chukotka region. The tradition of sled dog breeding is strong in this settlement. Athletes should arrive at the place by March 23, and two days later they will enter the fight for leadership.

“From Inchoun they go to Sireniki, there they turn around and finish in Lorino on April 4th. We plan that we will start accepting applications from athletes next week, ”the district department of culture, sports and tourism said.

The route will also pass through the settlements of Uelen, Lavrentiya, Yanrakynnot, Provideniya. Its total length will be 626 kilometers.

Recall that in 2022 the Hope-2022 race started on March 29. 14 mushers set off from the village of Inchoun (Chukotka region). Because of the bad weather, the athletes were forced to “blizzard” twice – to take an unplanned rest. The organizers decided to combine the last two sections, as a result, the race with a total length of 546 km consisted of seven stages. Athletes finished in the village of Lavrentiya on April 8. Gennady Tomilov from Lorin became the winner of the race.
