Hundreds of thousands of people remain without electricity

In yet another nighttime address following massive Russian missile attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure on November 15, President Zelensky promised the nation to promptly “bring back the light.” However, this will not be easy to do. Some critical infrastructure facilities received 2-3 hits yesterday.

In Ukraine, it is forbidden to disseminate information about the points where Russian missiles “arrived”. However, you cannot hide an awl in a bag, and local authorities continue to inform citizens about why they were left without electricity.

So, the administration of Lvov already in the evening reported that 10 missiles had landed on three “critical infrastructure facilities”. Therefore, 80% of the city was de-energized. By morning, the authorities promised to put buses on the roads instead of trams and trolleybuses, and happily announced that 30% of traffic lights in the city continue to work: “therefore, we do not forget about the rules of the road.”

In the Ternopil region, 90% of the territories turned out to be de-energized, but the authorities there did not reassure anyone, they simply notified that elevators were temporarily suspended in the houses and posted a schedule for turning off the electricity.

In Ivano-Frankivsk, where an air raid alert was also announced yesterday, one substation was damaged, leaving a part of the region without electricity. But by evening, 90% of the electricity supply had already been restored there. Apparently, the region did not get much. In the morning they promised to return electricity to the residents of Kharkov. According to local authorities, six missile strikes were recorded against infrastructure facilities yesterday: substations in Kharkiv itself and in the Chuguev district were damaged.

In the Sumy region, as a result of rocket attacks, the Shostka district was left without electricity, water and heat, a schedule for an emergency power outage was introduced in Sumy itself, and traffic controllers appeared on the roads instead of traffic lights. In addition, the Prishibsky water intake in Sumy announced the suspension of its work, so there will also be interruptions in water supply.

The mayor of the city of Rivne, who also came under attack yesterday, warned fellow citizens about interruptions in electricity and heat, advising citizens to “stock up on water, charge mobile phones to be in touch with relatives.”

The mayor of Khmelnytsky said that a critical infrastructure facility was badly damaged, leaving part of the region without electricity and without water supply. Vinnytsia was also left without a water supply, where a pumping station was damaged by rockets yesterday. Rolling blackouts are expected, as the head of the city has already notified.

Mayor of Krivoy Rog Vilkul reported in the morning that the city managed to restore electricity supply, so there will be water and heat supply. According to him, a Russian missile hit an energy facility, but the power supply was restored through other lines. However, in the morning, 300,000 residents remained without electricity in the city, and there were no rolling blackouts.

The head of Zhytomyr announced two missiles that damaged a “critical infrastructure facility” yesterday. As a result, 28 boiler houses do not work in the city. The situation is going to be corrected with the help of imported mobile generators, which have already been connected to social facilities. However, in many areas there is no light, traffic lights in the city do not work.

An emergency schedule of rolling blackouts was also introduced by the Odessa power engineers, where several explosions thundered yesterday. It was reported about the arrival of missiles at substations near the Fontanka and in the village of Kotovsky.

Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko today notified the citizens that several substations were damaged, in connection with which the city was forced to return to the schedule of power outages.
