In 2023, the share of Russians using the Telegram messenger daily increased by more than 20% and reached almost half of the country’s total population over 12 years of age, Mediascope calculated. Telegram ranks fourth in the ranking of the most popular Internet resources in Russia, with WhatsApp remaining the leader.

According to a Mediascope study, excerpted from RBC, at the end of December 2023, the average daily coverage of Telegram was 47%. Moreover, in December 2022 the figure was at 39%. At the beginning of 2022, the average daily reach of Telegram was almost two times lower – 20%.

According to Mediascope, Telegram is the absolute leader in the age group from 12 to 17 years old. Among this age category, the average daily coverage by the end of last year was 76%.

By the end of 2023, the time that users spend on Telegram per day increased by almost 14%. If in December 2022 it was 37 minutes, then in December last year it was 42 minutes. Analysts note that the timing of consumption depends on the news agenda. As an example of peak values, the report indicates June 2023, when one of the informational reasons discussed was the attempted rebellion of the founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin. Then the average use time was 41 minutes.

In the ranking of the most popular Internet resources, Telegram ranks fourth. WhatsApp remains the leader among Russians. The average daily coverage of the messenger is 67%. In second place is Yandex with a coverage of 56%, in third place is Google (53%). The social network VKontakte ranks fifth (45%), video hosting YouTube is sixth (44%).
