The share of non-cash payments in the trade turnover in Russia has grown to 78%, and by the end of this year it can reach 80%, said Elvira Nabiullina, Chairman of the Central Bank, writes Interfax.

“As for the share of non-cash payments, it has grown in our country, if my memory serves me right, now it is a little more than 78% in retail turnover. And this share, in our opinion, can grow,” said the chairman at the Cybersecurity in Finance forum in Yekaterinburg. According to her, by the end of this year, the share of such payments may reach 78-80%.

According to the data of the Bank of Russia, in 2022 the share of non-cash payments amounted to 77.7%. For comparison, in 2021 the Central Bank reported 74%. Over the past five years, the share of non-cash payments has grown by almost 30%.

Last summer, the Central Bank reported that in 2021, an increase in cash payments was recorded, up to 33%. Then 61% of respondents reported that it is difficult to imagine their life without cash.
