The share of entrepreneurship in the income of Russians has reached a record since 2014

The population’s income from business activities in 2023 reached 6 trillion rubles, in nominal terms increasing by 32% by 2022, according to Rosstat data. In real terms, adjusted for inflation, the growth was almost 25%, according to calculations by Svetlana Misikhina, deputy director of the HSE Development Center, cited by RBC.

The share of income from entrepreneurship in the total monetary income of the population was 6.8% – the maximum figure since 2014 (then it reached 7%). At the end of 2021 and 2022, the share of entrepreneurial income was 5.7%.

In total, at the end of 2023, the cash income of the population amounted to 88.3 trillion rubles. Of these, 59% are wages of employees, 19.5% are social benefits, 10.3% are other cash income. These include money transfers and lottery winnings. Property income in 2023 fell by 41% in real terms compared to last year, its share falling to 4.4%.

By data Rosstat, in 2023 in Russia the Gini coefficient, which characterizes the degree of inequality in the distribution of income within population groups, increased to 0.403 against 0.395 a year earlier. Over the past year, real accrued wages in the Russian Federation increased by 7.8%. The average monthly nominal salary at the end of last year, according to preliminary data, increased by 14.1% compared to 2022 and amounted to 73,709 rubles.
