The share of counterfeit motor oil has increased sharply in Russia

Newspaper “News” with reference to representatives of the Union of Automotive Services, reports that the Russian market is filled with counterfeit automobile oil. According to Ilya Plisov, a member of the organization’s board, the share of such a product ranges from 30 to 50%.

It is noted that motor oils are on the list of goods allowed for import as part of parallel imports, and these include such popular brands as Castrol, Shell and Total. At the same time, as Plisov noted, there is parallel import of oils in significant volumes. He claims that not a single warehouse of the importers of these products had stocks of oil for several years, which, in turn, indicates that the stocks ran out long ago.

The Fit Service network of service stations agreed with the assessment of the Union of Automotive Services. Network director Tatyana Ovchinnikova said that from 2000 to 2021, the share of counterfeit motor oil in the Russian market reached 10-15%, and since the beginning of last year it has grown to 30%.

Ovchinnikova pointed out that in 2021, motor oils from Mobil, Toyota, Castrol, NGN, Shell, BARDAHL and Liqui Moly were the most popular among drivers, and many of them can still be found in stores, but today no one can truly guarantee the quality of the corresponding products can’t give.

Plisov added that the owners of brands that have left the Russian market do not make any claims, because they are not interested in this, and as a result, the situation arises that those who should care about the absence of counterfeit goods on the market have simply disappeared.
