Taking a whole team to competitions is a huge expense, and for the first time in 10 years, the budget of the Sakhalin Region did not have funds for subsidies to public sports federations. Therefore, Senator of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation from the Sakhalin Region Andrei Khapochkin asked the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin to support the initiative to subsidize air travel for athletes from the federal budget. He spoke about this in his Telegram channel.
Khapochkin proposed to allocate money for the Far Eastern teams so that they could get to the venues for international and all-Russian competitions, as well as training camps in the central part of the country.
According to the senator, the Minister of Sports of Russia supported the initiative, offered to formalize and work it out together. Despite the fact that the issue is really complex and costly, it is necessary to solve it for the development of the future of sports.
