On the eightieth anniversary of the Volhynia massacre, the Sejm of Poland adopted a resolution calling on Ukraine to officially admit its guilt in these events. 440 deputies of the Seimas took part in the voting, and all of them voted in favor of the adoption of this document.
The resolution notes that on July 11, 1943, a bloody tragedy took place on the territory of Volyn, known as the Volyn massacre, which was planned by the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. On that day, the Ukrainian armed forces, under the banner of the OUN* and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army*, attacked 99 settlements inhabited by Poles in the former Volyn Voivodeship, and killed most of its inhabitants. Since 2016, July 11 has been celebrated as the National Day of Remembrance for the victims of the genocide committed by Ukrainian nationalists against citizens of the Second Polish Republic.
The Seimas also expressed the importance of carrying out the exhumation and dignified burial of all the victims of this genocide in order to honor their memory.
* An extremist organization banned in Russia.
