The Secretary of the Security Council of Abkhazia did not rule out the participation of the republic in the Union State

Abkhazia can become a member of the Union State when establishing political and economic relations with Belarus, stated “RIA Novosti” Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic Sergei Shamba.

“In order for there to be political relations between states, there needs to be interest on both sides. Therefore, we want to start with economic cooperation. There is interest in Abkhazia in Belarus. Some Belarusian projects are being discussed in Abkhazia, and ours are being discussed in Belarus,” he told the agency.

The main goal of the commission is to create conditions for accelerating the recognition of the sovereignty of Abkhazia by Belarus, as well as ensuring its participation in Eurasian integration projects implemented at the initiative of Russia, the interlocutor said.

August 17, 2023 Lukashenko in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko statedthat Russian President Vladimir Putin never insisted that Belarus recognize Crimea as Russian and Abkhazia as an independent state. According to him, his confession would not have changed anything and “simply from a practical point of view there was no need for it.”
