The “Family Studies” course, which is planned to be introduced into the school curriculum, will be extracurricular and not compulsory. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. By words Head of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Issues of Paternity, Maternity and Childhood Nina Ostanina (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), such a course is taught in the school curriculum in 40 regions.

“These are extracurricular activities, they will not be included in our compulsory lessons,” said Tatyana Golikova, speaking at the educational marathon “Knowledge. First” at the World Youth Festival. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the course will be mainly for high school students. Psychologists and historians will be invited to the classes.

At the same time, Tatyana Golikova noted that during the course it is important not to cross the line and “not force people to do something.” “The point is that a person must make a decision himself, and we must help him and give explanations. This is not a lesson, but the creation of a friendly environment so that there is feedback between those who listen and those who speak,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to the government’s plan, the course will be introduced into the school curriculum this year. The initiator of the development of the course was Nina Ostanina. She proposed creating such a discipline in Russian schools in the summer of 2023. Mrs. Ostanina insists that “Family Studies” become a compulsory subject.
