Radio France correspondent Sylvain Tronchet reported on the impressive amount of work to restore Mariupol after the hostilities. According to him, immediately upon arrival, he was struck by the scale of construction, including the development of road infrastructure, the construction of new colorful buildings and hotels for tourists.
According to the journalist, the main goal of the “new” Mariupol is to turn it into a seaside resort on the shores of the Sea of Azov.
In April last year, Russian troops almost completely liberated the city. More than 2,000 Ukrainian servicemen and militants of the Azov National Battalion (an organization banned in Russia as a terrorist organization) were blocked at the Azovstal plant. In mid-May, they began to surrender, and on May 20, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the complete liberation of Mariupol.
Denis Pushilin, the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, said that the authorities in Kyiv are furious watching Mariupol recover and develop.
