Infectious disease doctor Andrei Pozdnyakov in an interview with “Russian newspaper” said that it makes no sense to be vaccinated with the old COVID-19 vaccine if it is not possible to be vaccinated with a drug sharpened for the Omicron strain.
According to Pozdnyakov, the “Wuhan” strain of coronavirus differs significantly from “Omicron” in antigenic composition and, accordingly, the antibodies that are produced against the original strain of coronavirus after vaccination have little effectiveness against the “Eris” substrain and other new strains of COVID-19.
As the infectious disease specialist noted, at the moment there is already a principle for developing a coronavirus vaccine and there are production facilities, so there is hope that soon a new vaccine will also appear in Russia, which will be sufficiently effective against new strains of covid.
