The Russian Thai boxing championship started in Magnitogorsk

For several competitive days, about 250 athletes from 29 regions of the country will enter the ring.
The Chelyabinsk region receives the right to host the national championship for the sixth time. Four competitions were held in Chelyabinsk, and for the second time Magnitogorsk was chosen as the venue.
Minister of Sports of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexander Grib noted that the Russian Championship is always a significant event, especially for such a spectacular sport as Thai boxing.
“On the weekend we are waiting for the final fights, we hope that Magnitogorsk residents will come to support athletes, not only from the Chelyabinsk region, but also from other regions,” said Alexander Grib. – Thai boxing in the Chelyabinsk region is in very good standing. We are among the top three teams in the country, we compete with Kemerovo, Dagestan, and we hope that we will also be in the top three at this championship.”
On March 15, the first fights took place, and in the evening the opening ceremony took place. Grigory Drozd, world and European champion in boxing and Thai boxing, WBC world champion, first vice-president of the Russian Muay Thai Federation, shared his impressions.
“The impressions are very good, the level of fighting is high. All the leaders in their weight categories arrived, members of the Russian national team, well, there are new faces, young guys, so a very good impression. Beautifully designed arena, high level of organization. This should also be noted,” Grigory Drozd emphasized.
Note that the championship of Russia will be held for a few more days. The final matches will take place on March 18 and 19. According to the results of the tournament, a national team will be formed, which will go to the World Championship in Thai boxing.
