The other day, on August 15, in Velikiye Luki in the Pskov region, a solemn ceremony was held to open the monument to Joseph Stalin, in which the clergy also took part. One of them consecrated the monument, and now the local diocese is conducting an official check of his actions. It is reported RIA News.
The diocese claims that they did not coordinate the participation of priests in the opening ceremony of the monument, and their actions “reflect their personal views.”
Recall that at different times they wanted to erect a monument to Stalin in Volgograd, then in Voronezh and in several other Russian cities, but the local authorities did not coordinate anywhere. Finally, such a monument was erected in Velikiye Luki. Its opening was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Velikiye Luki from Nazi invaders.
