About 160-170 cultural figures who disagreed with the policies of the Russian Federation left Russia. They left the country, among other things, to preserve their foreign assets, President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session WEF.
“Each person makes his own choice. Cultural figures – about 160-170 people – went abroad. They do not agree with government policies. But you can disagree with the policies of the Russian state and be here, talk about it, no one forbids it,” the president said.
Putin added that the departure of cultural figures is connected, among other things, “with material things.” “We have recently bought houses and accounts abroad – people are afraid of losing it. To preserve it all, they are required to criticize [Россию]so that they can expose them,” Putin said.
According to him, no one blocked the way back for the Russians who left.
According to the head of state, it would be better for cultural figures who have left to work abroad than to “drain their brains” here and promote non-traditional values. “Ultimately, a person is the arbiter of his own destiny. We decided to go – good. Everything works for us,” the president concluded.
