The Russian Paralympic Committee called options for suspending membership in the IPC

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) may suspend the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) until the Russian side meets the requirements of the international organization, said RPC President Pavel Rozhkov. However, these requirements, according to Mr. Rozhkov, contradict the Paralympic values.
“There are several options for sanctions that can be applied to the RCC at the IPC General Assembly. The RPC can exclude or temporarily suspend their rights, and they can also apply any sanctions, but allow Russian Paralympic athletes to participate in international competitions, ”the president of the RPC told TASS.
Earlier, at a board meeting of the Russian Ministry of Sports, Mr. Rozhkov said that the IPC could permanently remove the RCC. He later explained to TASS that such a statement was dictated by emotions. “I believe that the RPC can be removed for a long time, since we are not going to change our position and deviate from the Paralympic principle of neutrality,” he added.
According to the President of the RPC, the dissatisfaction of the International Paralympic Committee is due to the fact that the RPC is actively involved in the rehabilitation of veterans of the military operation in Ukraine. The IPC also requires the RCC to evaluate the military operations in Ukraine and not to participate in the competition, which contains the symbols of the operation.
“The requirements of the IPC contradict the charter of the RPC and the IPC, since we cannot take any position,” said Mr. Rozhkov. At the same time, he stressed that the RPC “cannot be aloof from the problems in our country” and not involve veterans of the military operation in the Paralympic movement.
In March the I.O.C. recommended allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. These recommendations did not apply to the 2024 Olympics, a decision on which was expected later. In July it became known that the Olympic committees of Russia and Belarus will not receive invitation from the IOC to participate in the Summer Games in Paris.
The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are due to take place from July 26 to August 11, while the Paralympic Games are scheduled from August 28 to September 8.
