According to the chairman of the synodal department of the Moscow Patriarchate for relations between the Church, society and the media, Vladimir Legoyda, the Kyiv authorities have begun the illegal seizure of the shrines of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
He emphasized that such methods had not been applied to the church since the godless Soviet regime.
“Believers are being expelled in the silence of those structures that did not leave any, even a potential threat to religious freedom without a reaction. The atmosphere in Ukraine is such that it is difficult to believe in the possibility of restoring the right by legal means,” he told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that the clergy of the canonical UOC were denied access to two churches of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra: the Assumption Cathedral, the main church of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and the Refectory Church.
