The Russian Orthodox Church called on believers not to be afraid of celebrating the Chinese New Year

RIA Novosti reports that the agency’s source in the Russian Orthodox Church expressed support for celebrating the Chinese New Year in Russia, which will be celebrated from February 9 to 18. It was previously announced that, for example, various thematic shows would be organized in Moscow, Chinese fairs and master classes would be held.

According to the RIA speaker, the Chinese holiday is planned to be celebrated as part of the cross year of culture between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, and “the Church welcomes the development of cultural ties.”

“We do not see a religious dimension in the celebration of the Chinese New Year,” the speaker added, “that could confuse Orthodox believers.”

Earlier, the mufti of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of the Moscow Region, Daud Mukhutdinov, spoke similarly, saying that there is nothing reprehensible in celebrating the Chinese holiday.
