The Russian Orthodox Church began raising funds to help victims in the Kherson region

On June 15, the Synodal Department for Charity of the Russian Orthodox Church on the online platform “Let’s Help” on the website mirom.help opened an urgent collection of assistance for the victims of the flood in the Kherson region, which occurred after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.
As the press secretary of the Synodal Department for Charity Vasily Rulinsky told Kommersant, “the purpose of the action is to raise funds for the purchase of pumps for pumping water, generators, folding beds, mattresses, pillows, hygiene products and food.”
According to him, anyone can help by transferring money on the website of the Let’s Help online platform. The delivery of aid will be undertaken by a special humanitarian center of the Crimean Metropolis.
“A lot of people suffered from flooding,” Mr. Rulinsky explained to Kommersant. “Help is needed both in temporary accommodation centers and for those who remained in cities and towns off the banks of the Dnieper.”
According to him, “the water is gradually disappearing, but in order to return to normal life, it is necessary to dry out houses and basements.”
“In many settlements there is still no electricity, so generators are needed,” the ROC said. “People need food, folding beds, mattresses, pillows, hygiene products.”
On June 8, the Synodal Department for Charity donated 1.5 million rubles to the Special Humanitarian Center of the Crimean Metropolis, these funds were used to provide first aid to the victims: the purchase of food, clean water and hygiene products.
“Over the past week, we have managed to study the situation and the needs of people, check with other helping organizations so that there is no duplication of assistance,” said Deacon Igor Kulikov, head of the Let’s Help online platform, assistant chairman of the Synodal Department for Charity.
“Despite the support already provided, a lot of help is still needed,” said Vasily Rulinsky. “We call on all caring people to respond to our call and make a donation.”
