The Synodal Department for Charity of the Russian Orthodox Church on the online platform “Let’s Help” opened a collection of assistance for victims of the flood in Orsk.
“Most likely, even more people will be in the flood zone,” Vasily Rulinsky, press secretary of the Synodal Department for Charity, told Kommersant. “This is not only the Orenburg region. We are already preparing to help those who live in other regions where there is a threat of flooding.”
The collected donations will be used primarily for the purchase of hygiene products, bed linen, mattresses, pillows, clothing, equipment for pumping water and draining residential premises, for the targeted needs of the victims. “Such a terrible disaster happened for the first time in a hundred years,” noted Archpriest Vyacheslav Kochkin, head of the social department of the Orsk diocese. “Half of Orsk was flooded.” According to him, “in a short time, people lost their homes, property, vegetable gardens, summer cottages, and cars.”
