The Russian Football Union (RFU) has agreed to hold a friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Serbia in March 2024. This was announced by the President of the RFU Alexander Dyukov. According to him, the Russian side received approval from UEFA.

“There is a contract with the Serbs, it has been signed. There was no contract with Bosnia, there was interest from them. We confirmed that we are ready to play. We have received approval from UEFA,” Mr. Dyukov told reporters (quoted from “RIA News”).

A Serbian agency reported on a possible match upon agreement between UEFA and FIFA on December 15 Tanjug with reference to the Serbian Football Federation. According to the agency, the match will take place on March 21 or 22 at the Zenit Arena stadium in St. Petersburg. For the Russian team, this is the first match with a European team since the fall of 2021.

In February 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian football teams and clubs from participating in international competitions indefinitely due to the military conflict in Ukraine. Since then, the Russian team has only played friendly matches.
