The Russian Ministry of Defense spoke about the role of the UAE in the return of Russian prisoners

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) acted as mediators in the latest prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced this on Wednesday, January 31.
The department’s Telegram channel notes the humanitarian efforts of the UAE authorities, who helped bring home 195 Russian soldiers from Ukrainian captivity. In exchange, the same number of Ukrainian Armed Forces was transferred to Ukraine.
Back in October 2022, Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the UAE play an important role in the process of prisoner exchange between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. During negotiations between the leader of the Arab state Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Moscow’s interest in continuing Abu Dhabi’s mediation efforts was noted.
In January 2024, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced progress in the exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine. The Foreign Ministry called this a consequence friendly relations with both countriesas well as regular high-level contacts.
