The Central Election Commission (CEC) has completed accepting signatures that self-nominated candidates and candidates from non-parliamentary parties had to provide for registration as candidates in the Russian presidential elections.
By the evening of January 31, the Central Election Commission registered four presidential candidates: Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Nikolai Kharitonov (KPRF), Vladislav Davankov (New People) and Vladimir Putin (self-nominated). The signatures submitted to the CEC by Boris Nadezhdin (Civil Initiative), Sergei Malinkovich (Communists of Russia) and the Russian Rada, which is running for elections as a self-nomination, are currently at the verification stage.
They refused to participate in the election race today, January 31 Andrey Bogdanov (Russian Party of Freedom and Justice) and self-nominated Anatoly Batashev. The day before, January 30, his candidacy stripped off Chairman of the Russian People’s Union party Sergei Baburin. Irina Sviridova, nominated by the non-parliamentary Democratic Party of Russia didn’t collect required 100 thousand signatures.
According to the election law, collecting voter signatures is not required to register nominees from parliamentary parties. Nominees from non-parliamentary parties must collect no less than 100 thousand and no more than 105 thousand signatures, and self-nominated candidates must collect no less than 300 thousand and no more than 315 thousand signatures. The CEC must make the final decision on the registration of candidates no later than February 10. The Russian presidential elections will be held from March 15 to 17.
