Experts from Russia for the first time showed the internal structure of the Anglo-French Storm Shadow missile, which is in service with the Ukrainian army. The data obtained during the disassembly of the missile is transferred to various departments, in particular, to improve the work of air defense, the agency reports “RIA News”.
“Recently, we have been actively studying the Storm Shadow cruise missiles. We are working on technologies for their neutralization… Sometimes the work of air defense (leads to the fact that… “Kommersant”) the missile is not destroyed, but falls to the ground, and the warheads remain. Algorithms and a tool were developed to neutralize missile warheads in order to protect our land from incoming evil spirits,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
As RIA Novosti clarifies, the specialist showed the agency’s correspondents the Storm Shadow head fairing, which is discarded when approaching a target, the defused warhead fuse, and the bottom part on which the fuse is installed.
RIA Novosti footage shows the disassembly of the rocket. In particular, the video shows the assembly that unfolds the partially broken wing of the Storm Shadow. The agency claims that the main charge of the missile warhead shown is located at the wing assembly. The Storm Shadow is reported to have a tandem warhead, which is designed to destroy heavily defended targets, including concrete bunkers.
The video also shows the rocket’s turbojet engine, including low-pressure compressor blades. In addition, the footage shows the materials from which Storm Shadow is assembled. According to the agency, based on the general condition of the missile, it can be concluded that it did not operate normally, but was either suppressed by electronic warfare systems or fell due to a technical malfunction.
Storm Shadow/SCALP is a long-range (250–500 km) air-launched cruise missile. Joint development of the French Matra and the British British Aerospace. Storm Shadow entered service with the Ukrainian army in May 2023.
