The Russian Jewish Congress asked the ICR to check the expert from the Berkovich case for anti-Semitism

The Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) sent an appeal to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) Alexander Bastrykin with a request to check the statements of the religious scholar Roman Silantiev for inciting ethnic hatred. On the basis of Mr. Silantyev’s expertise, a criminal case was initiated to justify terrorism against director Yevgenia Berkovich and playwright Svetlana Petriychuk. The Jewish Congress asks the TFR to check Mr. Silantyev’s comment to the Telegram channel Lomovkain which the religious scholar talks about the examination of the play “Finist the Clear Falcon”, the authors of which are Evgenia Berkovich and Svetlana Petriychuk.
The play “Finist the Clear Sokol” was staged by Evgenia Berkovich in 2020. It tells about Russian women recruited by radical Islamists on dating sites for a trip to Syria. The production was based on the play by Svetlana Petriychuk, written on the basis of real protocols of interrogations and sentences. In 2022, the production received two Golden Mask awards (given with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Moscow government) – for the best work of a costume designer and the best work of a playwright.
“Silantyev’s comment posted on the Telegram channel contains many anti-Semitic prejudices. This is an anti-Semitic comment that gives us an idea of the expert’s negative attitude towards Jews,” the RJC said in a statement.
Mr. Silantiev, in a comment to the Telegram channel, in particular, stated: “These things are unacceptable. Especially when theatrical awards are given for this, when it is promoted, even when it is people, excuse me, of Jewish nationality who do it. This is not the first time I have observed that the Jews are actively supporting the Wahhabis. It feels like to spite the Russians. We have a whole group that joined this organization and died there safely. Watching this, despite the fact that the Wahhabis want to cut all Jews to the root, … this is already some kind of just postmodern, to be honest.”
The RJC said that they had sent Mr. Silantiev’s commentary for examination, which was conducted by a Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of the Russian Language at the Russian State Pedagogical University. A. I. Herzen Mikhail Dymarsky. “His expert opinion unequivocally confirms ours: Silantyev’s comment contains signs of anti-Semitism,” the RJC said in a statement.
The Russian Jewish Congress added that it would closely monitor the trial of Yevgenia Berkovich because it, too, “shows signs of anti-Semitism.”
Roman Silantiev later commented RBC REC statement. “Quite logical actions – to find fault with at least something. What is the incitement of discord here? In fact, anti-Semitism is fueled by Berkovich herself. If I were the Russian Jewish Congress, I would condemn the actions of Berkovich, just as I condemned the activities of the terrorist organization that it supports,” he said.

All references to destructology as a science in public sources refer either to this laboratory itself or to its head, Roman Silantiev. On April 10, 2022, a criminal case was opened against Evgenia Berkovich and Svetlana Petriychuk to justify terrorism (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; punishment from five to seven years in prison). On May 5, the court arrested the authors of the play for two months.
