The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Canadian Ambassador to Moscow Alison Le Claire. This is connected with the incident with the attack on the Russian embassy in Ottawa. As a result, a protest was expressed to the diplomat on Smolenskaya Square.
As they say on site Russian department, a strong protest was made about the “criminal actions of an unidentified person who threw a Molotov cocktail on the territory of the Russian embassy.” Also, the Russian side was dissatisfied with the blocking by aggressive demonstrators “with the connivance of the arrived police squad of the official entrance to the consular department of the Russian embassy.”
As a result, the Russian side demanded that immediate measures be taken to ensure the security of embassies and consulates in Canada. It also refers to diplomats and members of their families in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
In July, Russian Charge d’Affaires in Canada Vladimir Proskuryakov said that the latest anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Ottawa are counterproductive, unreasonable and will affect Canada itself. Before that, Canada imposed another package of sanctions against Russia. This time, mechanical engineering, metallurgy and transport fell under the restrictions.
