The operation of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip could lead to a new round of conflict. This statement was made by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov in a conversation with RIA News.
He said about 1.3 million Palestinians were concentrated on a small piece of land in the Rafah area, near the border with Egypt.
“What should they do if there is a capture of the city and bombings and fighting? What should the population do?” – added the Deputy Foreign Minister, adding that there are women and children there.
Mikhail Bogdanov noted that Arab-Muslim countries, including Egypt, are concerned about the situation developing in the region, in particular due to the influx of so many people into foreign territory.
“They must remain on their territory: the Palestinians – on Palestinian territory, in the Gaza Strip,” added a representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, the Israeli Ministry of Defense stated that IDF will launch a powerful ground offensive on Rafahunless Hamas releases the remaining Israeli hostages by the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, in just under three weeks.
