Accusations of spying for Russia coming from Moldova are disinformation and manipulation of facts. This statement was made on Thursday, September 7, by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, commenting on allegations about the alleged “ongoing espionage activities” of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau.
The official emphasized that the price of such “spy investigations” is well known – this is nothing more than a set of unfounded accusations.
The authors of such statements are preparing the ground for new unfriendly actions towards Russia, Zakharova pointed out.
At the same time, the speaker of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed the hope that “official Chisinau will have enough wisdom not to make rash decisions based on such fake information.”
In July, the director of the Moldovan Information and Security Service (ISS), Alexandru Musteata, said that his agency had uncovered and eliminated an intelligence network that allegedly engaged in espionage and high treason with the aim of destabilizing the situation in the country in favor of Russia.
In response, the Russian Embassy in Chisinau stated that the Russian side was perplexed to learn about the “hand of Moscow” in the latest “spy scandal” in the Republic of Moldova. The diplomatic mission pointed out that such accusations have become a “calling card” within the framework of a coordinated anti-Russian line of the “collective West”.
