The Russian Foreign Ministry called Israel’s statements about nuclear weapons unacceptable

The words of the Minister for Jerusalem and Heritage of the Jewish State, Amichai Eliyahu, who allowed a nuclear attack on the Gaza Strip, are provocative and unacceptable. This is stated in comments official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

On November 5, Eliyahu admitted dropping a nuclear bomb on the Gaza Strip during an interview on Kol Berama radio, calling it “one of the possibilities.” The minister later clarified that his words were a metaphor.

“We consider these statements provocative, absolutely unacceptable and very remarkable <...> Is this a threat of genocide? There are no and cannot be justifications for such statements, especially considering that they come from an official of a state that positions itself and is proclaimed by the “collective West” as “the only democracy in the Middle East,” the report says.

The Foreign Ministry also drew attention to the fact that such statements clearly confirm the presence of nuclear weapons in Israel, and also demonstrate their readiness to use them “in completely inadequate scenarios.” Zakharova added that the question of creating a zone in the Middle East free of such weapons and their means of delivery is becoming increasingly urgent.

“We would like to remind you that progress in this direction is systematically “torpedoed” by Israel, with the active support and connivance of the United States,” she concluded.

On November 5, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu removed Eliyahu, who spoke out about the nuclear strike, from participating in cabinet meetings and emphasized that the country adheres to international law.

The US State Department considered Eliyahu’s words “absolutely unacceptable” and called on all parties to refrain from statements that could lead to an escalation of the situation. The minister’s statement was also condemned by several countries in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Syria and Qatar.

The minister’s statements were also criticized by the representative of the Palestinian group Hamas, Hazem Qassem, calling them terrorism. And the Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS), Ahmed Aboul Gheit, considered Eliyahu’s words racist. He added that this is “the true face of the occupation government for all those who defend it in the West.”
